KenoteQ submitted the best solution to the open innovation program Sacyr iChalleges, which received 276 proposals from 34 countries.

This Scotland-based firm presented a solution to the challenge of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the development phase of our projects. 

Runner-up prize went to Israeli company ITC for their technology to promote sustainable urban mobility and reducing contamination.

Scottish firm KenoteQ has won the 12th edition of the Sacyr Innovation Awards by the Sacyr Foundation. The award-giving ceremony, which took place yesterday evening, was conducted by journalist Ángeles Blanco and counted on the presence of Juan Verde, expert in innovation and sustainable economy.
 
The Sacyr Foundation has recognized this firm’s solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by edification projects. Out of the 276 submissions, KenoteQ’s proposal is the one that adjusts best to one of the four challenges issued by Sacyr in the framework of its open innovation program, Sacyr iChallenges.

In addition, the Sacyr Foundation gave a runner-up prize to Israeli firm ITC, for their technology to promote sustainable mobility.

KenoteQ has developed the K-briq, the most sustainable brick product alternative available in the market. Over 90% of the composition of the K-briq is certified recycled construction and demolition waste. Its technical characteristics are comparable with or improve on that of traditional bricks, for their structure, resistance, acoustics, or lifespan. Additionally, it is more heat insulating than traditional bricks.

The production process does not require high-temperature firing, virgin cement, or large volumes of clay, making it a highly attractive alternative. It is a solution that allows to significantly reduce the emissions associated with the production of construction materials at our sites and given its maturity, has a high potential to be implemented in some of our projects that are in the design phase or that are scheduled to start shortly.

KenoteQ’s solution answers to the GHG in construction challenge issued in this edition of Sacyr iChallenges to find new solutions to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the development phase of construction.
KenoteQ’s (United Kingdom), Fortera’s (United States) and EH Group’s (Switzerland) ideas were the finalists that best answered to this challenge. 

Sacyr obtained a €924 million EBITDA from January to September 2022, a 47% increase compared to the same period in 2021. The EBITDA as of September 2022 already surpassed that of the entire year 2021. 

This significant growth came with an improvement in the profitability rate (EBITDA margin), which stood at a record 22.6%, 360 basis points more than in September 2021. 

The improvement in results over the first nine months of 2022 demonstrate the strength of Sacyr’s business model, which is predictable, recurring and stable, thanks to its focus on the concession business. P3 assets comprise 85% of the company’s EBITDA, which is now 300 basis points higher than in 2021.

Sacyr continues to demonstrate its ability to bring assets into operation with the commissioning of several important infrastructure: AVO I and Ruta 78 (Chile), Mar 1 and Rumichaca-Pasto (Colombia), and the A3 (Italy).

Revenues grew by 24%, up to € 4,092 million, due to the fact that the revenues from P3 assets are directly linked to inflation. Net profits soared to €68 million (+13%).

From January to September, the operating cash flow grew to €427 million, 6% higher than in 2021.

The company gave a boost to its 2021-2025 Strategic Plan with the announcement that it is actively exploring several corporate actions to achieve its recourse net debt reduction goals two years in advance. 

These actions include the search for an investment partner for 49% of Sacyr Water, a divestment of 49% of Sacyr Services and continuing the company’s rotation policy of non-strategic P3 assets.

In the first half of 2022, Sacyr sold its stake in Repsol, which brought a €58 million positive cash result and an associated debt reduction by €563 million. Thus, Sacyr achieved one of the goals in its 2021-2025 Strategic Plan.

Sacyr is the first company in the infrastructure sector to certify its water footprint under the ISO 14046 standard. The certification was verified by AENOR, an organization that ratifies the information, data and results disclosed in the company’s water footprint assessment.

Sacyr’s water footprint assessment includes all the group’s activities worldwide. This certification analyzes up to 18 relevant categories according to the top four most recognized methodologies internationally. This certification has a comprehensive approach, as it considers all types of impacts on ecosystems, human health, and water-related resources. 

The result of this verification was satisfactory, given the project’s complexity due to its high business volume and activity variety. Thanks to the desalination facilities run by Sacyr Water, the company has an extremely positive impact on areas with high water stress.

Environmental conservation

This AENOR certification demonstrates the importance of proper water management in corporate strategies to preserve the environmental and social value of water, a scarce and indispensable resource for sustainable development. 

Fernando Lozano, General corporate manager of Sacyr, received the certification from Gonzalo Piédrola, Director of AENOR for the Central and EMEA regions. Lozano said that “the certification is the foundation to continue to advance in the line of the 2021-2025 Sacyr Sustainable Action Plan and generate a positive environmental impact”. 

In that sense, Gonzalo Piédrola said that “AENOR wishes to accompany companies in their commitment to sustainability and the AENOR water footprint verification, in compliance with internationally accepted referents, will allow Sacyr to precisely calculate how much water is needed for its activities, ensuring that the information is accurate, coherent and transparent”. 

This ISO 14046 standard based AENOR certification for the calculation and assessment of the water footprint verifies the direct and indirect volume of water consumed in the process and also assesses the associated environmental impacts under a life cycle analytic approach.

• Sacyr is the first company in Peru to obtain this certification.
• In addition to legally mandatory labor benefits, the company has 40 work-life balance and flexibility measures in place that favor the well-being and the balance between the work, family, and personal life of its collaborators.
• Sacyr obtained this certification in 2020 in Spain and in 2021 in Colombia.

The MásFamilia Foundation has awarded Sacyr the EFR Empresa Familiarmente Responsable (Family-responsible company) Certification for its work-life balance policy in Peru. This certification endorses the company's work in promoting policies and measures that favor the well-being and work, family, and personal life balance of its employees. Sacyr demonstrates its commitment to talent management, conciliation, diversity, and co-responsibility as foundations of its long-term business sustainability. 

The company passed an external audit in the first half of 2022 by consulting company Proxima and auditing firm CDM Certification. This audit assessed the 40 measures implemented in the company for the well-being of its staff. These measures apply to the following areas:  employment quality, flexible work hours and remote work, family support, personal and professional development, and equal opportunities. 

The implementation of the EFR model for work-life balance management includes all the Sacyr Group companies in Peru: Sacyr Construcción Perú SAC, Sacyr Concesiones Perú SAC, Sacyr Operación y Servicio Perú SAC (SAOPSE), Concesionaria Vial Sierra Norte, and all its subsidiaries.

Patricia Martínez, Chief People Officer of Sacyr pointed out: "At Sacyr we have been working on flexibility and work-life balance measures for many years." MásFamilia Foundation

MásFamilia Foundation was created in 2003 as a private, independent, non-profit and charitable organization, conceived and aimed to provide innovative and highly professional solutions -including the EFR certificate- to protect and support families.

Sacyr concluded the first half of 2022 with a €530 million EBITDA, 32% higher than in the same period of 2021. This sound growth came with an improvement of profitability rates (EBITDA margin), which situated at a record 20.5%.

The results of 1H of 2022 demonstrate the soundness of Sacyr’s business model, which is predictable, recurring, and stable, and focused on P3 assets. The group continues to show its strength despite the unfavorable macroeconomic scenario thanks to the fact that the income from P3 is tied to inflation.

In the first half of 2022, P3 assets were 85% of the EBITDA, 300 points more than in the same period last year.

Revenues grew by 20% in the first half of 2022 to €2,589 million, and the net business profit rose to €42 million (+4%).

Between January and June, the operating cash flow rose to €284 million, a similar figure to the one for the same period in 2021.

In the first quarter of 2022, Sacyr sold its participation in Repsol, which entailed a net profit of €58 million, and a reduction of its €563 million associated debt. This way, Sacyr achieved one of the goals in its 2021-2025 Strategic Plan.

Revenue backlog increases by 8%

Sacyr ended the first half of 2022 with a backlog of €49.6 billion, 8% more than in the same period in 2021, after obtaining significant contract awards. 80% of this value comes from Sacyr Concesiones, 13% from Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructures, and the remaining 7%, from Sacyr Services.

The relevant contracts in this period include the Ruta 78 P3 in Chile, the construction of a transportation hub in Belfast (Northern Ireland), and a section of the US62 road (United States), and a pediatric facility in Ontario (Canada). Sacyr Services has won several cleaning services, including one in Barcelona and another at the Metro de Santiago (Chile).

Debt evolution

Net recourse debt went from €798 million to €767 million by the end of June. The company continues to work on reducing its debt, with the aim of having it significantly lowered by the end of the Strategic Plan in 2025.

Thus, after the end of the semester, Sacyr has reinforced its capital structure with a €355 million refinancing of corporate debt in two tranches: a five-year tenor €280 million loan, and a three + two year tenor €75 million revolving credit facility. This operation extends debt maturity, reinforces, and simplifies the company’s long-term capital structure in a complex moment, characterized by extreme volatility of the financial markets.

Shareholders’ remuneration

The shareholders’ remuneration policy is one of the pillars of the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan. In 2022, Sacyr has paid two scrip dividends with a € 0.115 gross price per share, which represents a 4.8% dividend yield; this helps fulfill the company’s goals and market commitments.

Sustainable commitment

Making its activities sustainable is at the core of Sacyr’s decision making, and multiple international agencies acknowledge so. Recently, Sustainalytics recognized Sacyr as the fourth most sustainable infrastructure company internationally, and the first in Spain.

Additionally, Carbon Disclosure Project recognized Sactr as a Supplier Engagement Leader 2021.

In the first quarter of 2022, Sacyr issued a social bond for €262 million to finance the Rumichaca-Pasto road P3.

Evolution by business division

Concesiones.-Sacyr Concesiones obtained revenues of €869 million (+54%) and an EBITDA of €294 million (+39%) thanks to the contribution of the new Ruta 78 highway in Chile, the commissioning of several highway sections and the good operational evolution of the majority of its assets.

During the first semester, there was significant progress on the projects scheduled to be fully operational in the upcoming months. The Pedemontana-Veneta (Italy) is already at 99% progress, Rumichaca-Pasto (Colombia), is at 98%. Mar 1 (Colombia) and AVO I (Chile) are already operational..

The future revenue backlog, which stood at €39,825 million (+9%) includes the Ruta 78 P3 project in Chile, which started running in Q1 This project includes an extension of 133 km, and it will have a positive effect on the lives of close to 1.7 million people.

Engineering and Infrastructures.- Revenues for this division reached €1,455 million, which is 13% higher than in 1H 2021. The EBITDA grew by 23% to €193 million, and the EBITDA margin rose to 13.3%, compared to 12.3% last year.

This growth is based on the development of the great projects in Sacyr’s portfolio in Chile, Colombia, the U.S., Peru, Uruguay, or Spain, among others.

Eliminating the financial asset effect of Pedemontana and the A3 projects, the division maintains the EBITDA from Q1 2022, despite of the extraordinary situation the industry is experimenting, due to the increase in the cost of raw materials.

This division’s backlog reached €6,487 million, 3% more than at the end of 2021. Approximately 50% comes from the P3 division. The backlog represents 27 months of activity.

Services.- Revenues for this division increased 5% to €516 million. The EBITDA reached €46 million (+4%) and the EBITDA margin stood at 9%, similar to the same period in 2021.

The Services backlog totaled €3,288 million, 5% higher. In 2022, this division has won new street cleaning and waste collection services in Reus, Santurce, Torrejón de Ardoz, lot 2 of the street cleaning contract in Madrid, and lots 2 and 3 of the green spaces in Madrid as well.

We have closed the call for proposals for the fifth edition of Sacyr iChallenges, with a total 276 proposals for the four business challenges issued by the company. This represents a 13% increase compared to the 2021 edition.

International participation has increased by 20%, with proposals from up to 34 different countries like Spain, Chile, the United States, Colombia, Israel, Finland, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, South Korea, or Ireland. The call has made its way to countries as varied as Gabon, Tunisia, or China, which shows the international nature of the initiative.

Sacyr iChallenges is one of the drivers in Sacyr’s innovation and transformation strategy. With this open innovation program, Sacyr looks for new partners with whom to promote sustainable solutions that help improve the quality of life of citizens through better infrastructures and services.

Four challenges on sustainability

The four challenges of this edition of Sacyr iChallenges are focused on making some of Sacyr’s key activities more sustainable. The challenges are: to promote the sustainable urban mobility, maximize renewable energy use; recovery of new materials; and reduce the carbon footprint in construction activities.

The next phase of the process will be the evaluation of all the proposals received by the people in charge of the different business areas of Sacyr.

The iChallenges program finalizes with the celebration of the Sacyr Innovation Summit, which will take place in November, at the company's headquarters in Madrid. At this event, the selected innovative agents will publicly present their initiatives to solve the four challenges.

In addition, the Sacyr Foundation will recognize, as part of the 12th Edition of the Sacyr Innovation Awards, some of the solutions presented by the innovation community in Sacyr iChallenges.

To date, Sacyr iChallenges has received a total of more than 1,250 proposals from all over the world to solve the challenges that have arisen in each of the editions, promoting different projects. This capacity for implementation is what has consolidated the program as a reference in innovation in the infrastructure and services sector, where it is challenging to innovate.

The largest concrete pour to date has taken place on the continuation of the Edinburgh Trams York Place to Newhaven project. The project remains on schedule for commissioning in Spring 2023, with track layout 84% complete and all utility diversions finished 

The project is currently working in twelve separate sections across the route and the concrete pour took place on the bridge deck of Tower Bridge. 
The pour operation took approximately eight hours to complete, and involved sixteen operatives, nineteen loads of concrete which equated to approximately 130 m3, and 500m2 of finishing works were undertaken. 
On the technical challenges of this operation, María Ortega, SFN Project Director on Edinburgh Trams York Place to Newhaven, commented: “A concrete pour may look like a simple task from the outside, however there are so many different disciplines involved to ensure that it is undertaken in a safe and timely manner to deliver a high-quality end product. As contractors, SFN has brought extensive experience in the light rail sector to this project.”
To date 84% of track slab has been laid (almost 4,000m), 100% of the necessary utility diversions have been carried out, and main construction work is complete on three new tram stops, with works progressing well on another two. SFN has also installed 74 Overhead Line Equipment poles, 35% of the total along the route and over 4,000m of drainage infrastructure. 

Trams to Newhaven
Construction on Edinburgh Trams to Newhaven commenced in November 2019. The full scheme is valued at £207.3m and is on schedule to be in operation in spring 2023. The 4.7km route will have eight tram stops and will complete the existing tram network, which currently connects the airport with the city centre, to the northeast of the city. 
The construction of the new tram line will include 4.7 km of track, with improvements to public realm along the route.  The new tram route will run from York Place down through Leith Walk, Constitution Street, Ocean Terminal and then finish at Newhaven.

The Chilean Chamber for Construction highlighted Sacyr’s activity in Chile for its significant achievements in safety and occupational health.

 During the Chile Construction Week, an activity organized by the Chilean Chamber for Construction (CChC), Sacyr was recognized in the chamber’s honor roll with 4 and 6 stars for its work on safety and occupational health issues.
This milestone recognizes the implementation of SST management systems and the reduced accident rates, aspects that directly affect the health and wellbeing of all employees.

Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructures has won the contract for the architectural and museum rehabilitation of the ‘Salón de Reinos’.

The Museo del Prado of Madrid has awarded the development of an expansion project to a joint venture consisting of Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructure and Empty.
With this highly relevant action for an institution as important as the Museo del Prado, the development will add more than 9,000 m2 of the ‘Salón de Reinos’ to the museum space. The goal of this project is to hold the museum’s collections and develop a specific program of temporary expositions.
This expansion will enrich the cultural offer of the Paseo del Prado and Buen Retiro, which was inscribed on the UNESCO Heritage Site list in 2021.
It is expected that works start next July and have a project deadline of 30 months. Construction project management falls to the JV Foster+Partners-Rubio Arquitectura.

Raquel Sánchez, Minister for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, along with other authorities from the political and business worlds, has inaugurated the new building of the Tenerife Sur airport, built by Sacyr, which connects terminals 1 and 2. 

This project, awarded by AENA, has involved a €54 million investment. With the new building, the net usable area is increased in 14,000 m2, thus achieving a complete transformation of the airport facilities by uniting the two buildings into a single terminal area. 

The construction works by Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructures included the distribution of the external urbanization of the terminal area, to adapt it to its new layout; the construction of a modern, centralized safety checkpoint in a single level, with two spacious, lateral check-in areas in terminals 1 and 2. 

The building also includes two new jet bridges and four new boarding gates.

Extensive experience

Sacyr has extensive experience in the development of airports in Spain and Portugal, with more than €1.6 billion in completed works. Some of them include the T4 of the Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas airport, or the Murcia and Ciudad Real airports. Currently, Sacyr develops the rehabilitation works of the El Tepual (Puerto Montt) and Chacalluta (Arica) airports, both in Chile; and the Chiclayo and Lima airports in Peru. 

This project will connect the country’s inland with the port of Montevideo through a 273 km layout

Construction for this megastructure began in late 2021, and it currently stands at more than 70% progress, with earthworks at 85%.
In total, we have excavated more than 10 million m3 of soil, between soil movement and excavation of trenches, which are at approximately 80% progress. The execution of the new railway bridges exceeds 75% progress.
In addition, the installation of the railways advances at a good pace, with 80,000 meters of rails installed and more than 90,000 crossties placed.

More than 3,500 professionals involved
There are more than 3,500 professionals involved in this project, which is the largest investment in transport infrastructure in the history of Uruguay and it is also its most ambitious P3 project. 
The consortium Grupo Vía Central (GVC), led by Sacyr with Uruguayan firms Saceem and Berkes and the French NGE, oversees the financing, design, construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of the infrastructure for an 18-year term. 

Mutual society Asepeyo has given Sacyr the award for best practices in prevention management in its yearly award ceremony.
 Mutual society Asepeyo has given Sacyr the award for best practices in prevention management for its Safety Monitors program. 
Miguel París, Safety and Health director at Sacyr, collected this award, which recognizes the best practices of Sacyr’s prevention management system, which promote the incorporation of prevention activities and the participation of employees. 
The Safety Monitors program consists of hiring employees with a background in construction who have had accidents in the workplace, causing a disability. They join the team with the double goal of their reinsertion in the labor market and raising awareness about safety hazards among their staff. 
Thanks to this program, Sacyr has raised awareness from its experiences, observation, and monitorization of working conditions, and reporting these incidents to the Safety and Health at Work supervisor. 
This year, the Asepeyo Awards received 103 submissions, and the jury selected 15 winners and 15 finalists.

Sacyr Neopul has won an ICE Award (Ireland) in the category Specialist Services Contract, for the project “OHLE (Overhead Line Equipment) Maintenance, Repair and Renewal Services".

Sacyr Neopul does the maintenance of the Dublin Area Rapid Train electrification network (Dart) for Irish Rail, as well as the maintenance of 120 km of rail, and an additional 40 km of the electrification system. 

The ICE Awards recognize the best practices and projects in the construction sector in Ireland.

Sacyr ended the first quarter of 2022 with an EBITDA of €243 million, 25% higher than that in the same period in 2021. Between January to March, profitability (EBITDA margin) made records and situated at 20.3%, 200 basic points higher than that reached a year ago. 
These figures are proof of the strength of Sacyr’s business model, which is predictable, recurring, and stable, in a challenging and uncertain macroeconomic scenario. 83% of the EBITDA came from P3 assets with low demand risk.
Revenues grew by 13% in the first quarter of the year, to €1,196 million, and the net business profit raised to €40 million (+57%). The Group’s net result decreased by 21%, to €20 million, due to the fact that the profit last year included the company’s participation in Repsol. 
The company’s growth was achieved in a challenging international scenario, due to the Covid-19 and the raw materials shortage and logistics crises. 
Net recourse debt went from €681 million to €798 million, largely due to the investments carried out in this period. The commitment for 2022 is to reduce net recourse debt by nearly €200 million, in relation to the figure at the end of 2021.
The company continues to work on cutting net recourse debt, with the aim of having reduced it drastically by the end of the Strategic Plan, in 2025.
Operating cash flow rose to €150 million, with a 28% growth compared to the first quarter of 2021.
Future revenue backlog increases by 5%
Sacyr ended the first quarter with a backlog of €48,343 million, 5% more than in the same period in 2021. 81% of this value comes from Sacyr Concesiones, 13% from Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructures, and the remaining 6%, from Sacyr Services.

The relevant contracts in this period include the Ruta 78 P3 in Chile, the construction of a transportation hub in Northern Ireland, and a section of the US62 road in the United States, as well as several street cleaning services, one of them in Barcelona. 

The Children First consortium, formed by Sacyr Ingeniería e Infraestructuras and Amico Design, has signed the Project Agreement for the design, construction and financing of the Grandview Kids Center project for children with special needs in Ajax (Ontario, Canada).

The centre, awarded by Infrastructure Ontario and managed by Grandview’s Children Hospital, will be a pediatric facility that will integrate rehabilitation, medical and clinical services, as well as education and research activities for children with special communication, physical and developmental needs and their families in Durham Region.

The new Grandview Kids centre will be built on a 2-hectare site and will allow for future expansion to better serve this community.

• Occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech-language pathology, therapeutic recreation, audiology, infant hearing, low vision, social work;
• Ontario Autism Program;
• Preschool Outreach Program

• Ensures a single management system common to all sites
• Guarantees comprehensive site management
• Simplifies site management processes through digitization and automation.

GeOS is already implemented in Portugal: After the initial success of the pilot on the Alandroal site in March 2021, this solution has come into effect in all projects in Portugal since then. 
GeOS is being gradually deployed in the rest of the countries: Implementation has begun in Spain and Brazil. Peru will be the next country to apply the solution.

Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructures has won its first project ever in Sweden: the 32 km expansion of the Vag 56 roadway and the construction of a 3.2 km metropolitan bypass in Äs. The total amount for the contract is € 56 million (SEK 565.3 million).

Sacyr, in consortium with local partner Hellsténs, will execute the widening and improvement works on a 32 km section of the Vag 56 roadway between the municipalities of Katrineholm and Alberga (120 km to the west of Stockholm). The works consist on the widening of a 17 km roadway section to 2+1 lanes in both directions.
In addition, it will develop a 3.2 km metropolitan bypass in the locality of Äs, along with other actions, such as improvements on the lighting and safety of the road. 
The works that Sacyr will carry out include three new concrete structures and a series of repairs on the bridges of Hjälmaresund Lake. 
This contract was awarded by the Swedish Transport Administration, Trafikverket, and it has a 33-month execution deadline. The contract falls under the AB-04 Swedish contract standard, in which planning and design tasks are the customer’s responsibility, with low construction risk.

The operating cash flow increases to 15%, to € 629 million, which contributes to cutting net recourse debt by 19%, to € 681 million; this fulfills the company’s commitment to reducing it below € 700 million.

The company registers a net profit of - € 189 million largely due to the change in the accounting method of its participation in Repsol, and the recording of a provision for the Radiales project. This impact only has accounting effects and does not entail cashout flow for the group. 

Sacyr’s focus on P3 projects is reflected on its EBITDA: these assets represented 83% of the EBITDA in 2021. Profitability soars to 19.7%, significantly higher (+24%) than that in 2020 (15.9%).

The revenue backlog increases by 17%, to nearly € 46 billion, after a year with a record order intake in which the group accrued an € 11 billion backlog worth of new contracts.  

The consortium formed by Farrans and Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructures will carry out the main construction works of the Transport Hub in Weavers Cross Belfast BTH (Northern Ireland), for Translink, the public transport operator in Northern Ireland, within a 4 years deadline.

The Minister for Infrastructure of Northern Ireland, Nichola Mallon; and the CEO of Translink, Chris Conway, have announced the commencement of the main works with other representatives from the consortium: José Manuel Loureda, General Manager of Business Development of Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructures; and Dominic Lavery, Managing Director of Farrans, among other political and business representatives. 
 

This plan is applicable to the entire structure of Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructures, including subsidiary and investee companies from Sacyr’s construction division in Spain. 
The signing took place in Sacyr’s headquarters and the participants were: Patricia Martínez Íñigo, General Manager of HR and Talent Management of Sacyr, Juan Antonio Fernández Cerrato, Director of HR of the Engineering and Infrastructures division and Teresa Manjón Manjón, Director or Labor relations and Diversity of Sacyr; Pedro Hojas Cancho, Secretary General of UGT-FICA; and Daniel Barragán Burgui, Secretary General of CCOO del Hábitat,

Patricia Martínez, the General Manager of HR and Talent Management of Sacyr, highlighted that this plan “goes beyond Sacyr’s commitment to equal opportunities for men and women, making diversity a strategic lever for Sacyr”. 

Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructures has won two new highway contracts in Spain worth € 65 million: the LP-1 Los Llanos – Tijarafe highway in the island of La Palma (€ 46 million) and the Zafra - Badajoz bypass (€ 19 million).

The Sacyr – Cavosa – Grúas Tajadre joint venture will carry out the development and commissioning of a 7.6 km section of the LP – 1 highway between Los Llanos y Tijarafe, in the northwest of the island of La Palma, for the Consejería de Obras Públicas (Department of Public Works) of the Government of the Canary Islands within a 44-month deadline. 

This project will simplify the current route of the road, taking the orography of the terrain into account, while respecting the environmental value of the area at all times. The improvement of the highway conditions will significantly increase the safety and communications conditions of this area of the island. 

Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructures increased its ratio of project awards in 2021, reaching an order intake worth €4.1 billion, as per the roadmap set out in the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan. The order intake in 2020 was slightly greater than €2 billion.  

Of the contracts awarded last fiscal year, €3.3 billion come from contracts awarded and signed in 2021. Some relevant examples are the second runway at Jorge Chavez airport in Lima, Peru; energy efficiency improvements at the University of Idaho P3, USA; the expansion of the 12 de Octubre Hospital in Madrid, Spain; or the enlargement of the RSC-287 highway in Brazil. 

Additionally, the Engineering and Infrastructures division won three highway contracts in Texas and Florida, USA; two contracts for Amazon; several high-speed rail sections for Adif in Spain; and the construction of the new Buin Paine Hospital in Chile. 

Moreover, Sacyr’s construction subsidiary has other contracts awarded in 2021 but are pending signature in the coming weeks, valued at €811 million. These include the Ruta 78 Santiago-San Antonio, in Chile.
