Tyris Software wins the eighth edition of the Sacyr awards for innovation
14/12/2018Download pdfTyris Software has been the winner of the 8th edition of the Sacyr Awards for Innovation. The Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Pedro Duque, and the Chairman of Sacyr, Manuel Manrique, presented the award to this Valencian startup during an event held yesterday afternoon.
Tyris Software submitted the best proposal to solve the challenge that Sacyr had posed to the innovative ecosystem regarding the "advanced prediction of the long-term pavement deterioration on highways".
The Valencian company came out victorious over the two other finalists of the awards, Limmat Group and Talent Swarm. In this edition, Sacyr has received a total of 79 projects that tackled one of the five business challenges the company had raised.
Predictive analysis system
Tyris Software is already developing, together with Sacyr, a machine learning and big data analysis system that predicts the deterioration of the pavement of roads. The system incorporates data from multiple sources that are processed together to obtain a dynamic learning predictive model.
Once the solution developed jointly between Tyris and Sacyr is implemented, it is expected that the project will generate a considerable impact on the development of better built and maintained roads that provide a better service to its citizens.
In addition to the launch of the joint project between Sacyr and Tyris, the prize winner will be awarded 50,000 euros, mentoring support and preferential access to Sacyr's network of professionals and clients.
Internal category
During the event, prizes were also awarded to the best circular economy initiatives suggested by Sacyr’s staff. This year through Ingenium, the internal innovation platform, employees presented 170 ideas.
The winner of this edition of the awards was the Valoriza Environment team consisting of Raúl Mateos, David Canales, Álvaro Bujanda and Ana Benavent. The project which won the award consists of a new line of activity for textile recycling applied to the biological mechanical treatment plant of La Rioja.
This initiative seeks to reduce the textile waste currently disposed in landfills. To do this, it will recover the fabrics in Sacyr plants and return them to production processes. This initiative is aligned with the company's circular economy strategy.
The Chairman of Sacyr, Manuel Manrique, said during the award ceremony that innovation "is everyone’s responsibility, not only of those areas dedicated to innovation". "We have the responsibility to be able to guess the direction of our sector. Those companies that are able to follow that path will have a much better competitive position than their competitors", he added.
