New LNG Terminal (FSRU)

Services as chief adviser, providing Klaipedos Nafta with engineering, risk management, security, and environmental consultancy services for the LNG import terminal located in Klaipeda, Lithuania.
Klaipedos Nafta needed support services to implement the LNG terminal in Klaipeda port, located in the Baltic Sea, which is part of a key shipping route for Eastern Europe.
This project - highly visible in Lithuania and the world, both politically and socially - was undertaken as part of an effort to make the country energy independent.
The scope included the management of sub-contractors for financial planning, work on oil pipelines, marine work, environmental impact assessment (EIA) and risk management. Fluor also carried out the engineering and the pre-front-end design (pre-feed) and the FEED, and supervised the project management and construction.
Mechanical completion was achieved in October 2014, and commercial operations began in December 2014.
Lithuania was able to access international gas markets and to meet the country’s own natural gas needs at a very competitive price.
